JOB OPPORTUNITY:                       Foreclosure Prevention Community Outreach Worker

 
Health and Welfare Council of Long Island (HWCLI) is partnering with Economic Opportunity Council of Suffolk and Touro Law Center to provide foreclosure prevention services to communities with high numbers of home foreclosures. The Foreclosure Prevention Outreach Worker will work primarily out of HWCLI’s administrative office in Hempstead.

Essential Duties:

  • Educate community members on the availability of the Foreclosure Prevention program and the importance of participating in settlement conferences
  • Connect community members to appropriate counseling and legal representation
  • Serve as a liaison between the community members and those working for EOC of Suffolk as foreclosure prevention specialist
  • Collect all appropriate data and provide reports on outreach conducted, number of clients assisted and the outcome for each case
  • Conduct door-to-door grass root outreach in the hardest hit communities in Nassau County
  • Identify at-risk sub-prime mortgage homeowners and encourage them to seek foreclosure prevention counseling services and free legal counsel
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications, Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree required
  • Ability to travel throughout Long Island.
  • Exceptional oral and written communications skills – particularly over the telephone
  • A self-motivated “details” person with exceptional organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook and web-site database use required
  • Experience in community organizing and public speaking preferred
  • Team Player with the ability to work collaboratively with a small staff required
  • Experience working with not-for-profits
  • Bi-lingual preferred
