Advocacy

At HWCLI, we believe that strong communities are built not only through services, but also through action. We advocate for policies and programs that expand access to care, promote economic stability, ensure housing and food security, and strengthen the nonprofit sector. By engaging with decision-makers and raising public awareness, we work to create a more inclusive, resilient, and thriving Long Island for everyone.

back Expanding Health Care Access:

We advocate for protecting and strengthening health coverage programs like Medicaid and New York’s Essential Plan, which provide affordable care to millions, efforts that are especially important in the context of recent federal funding cuts and state initiatives to preserve coverage and expand access

back Promoting Food Security & Nutrition:

We advocate for federal and state policies that ensure continued funding for hunger prevention programs like SNAP, which are essential as food assistance faces strains due to federal budget uncertainties and program funding freezes.

back Advancing Economic Opportunity & Financial Stability:

We support policies that protect and enhance public benefit programs and oppose restrictions that would limit access based on work requirements or immigration status, recognizing how these affect individuals’ ability to maintain financial stability and access needed services

back Improving Maternal Health Outcomes

We champion policies that improve prenatal, postpartum, and reproductive health services, reduce maternal mortality, and address racial and economic disparities in outcomes. This includes supporting federal and state initiatives that expand coverage, increase provider access, and ensure comprehensive maternal care for all families.

back Enhancing Disaster Preparedness & Response

We advocate for robust federal, state, and local coordination and funding for emergency planning and response, including resources that strengthen public health and human services infrastructure during disasters.

Join us in creating a future for Long Island in which everyone has an equal opportunity to prosper and thrive.
