Fernandez named to Health & Welfare Council board

The Health & Welfare Council of Long Island announced that Dr. Harold Fernandez has joined its board of directors.
Fernandez brings a wealth of experience in the healthcare field and a passion for serving the underrepresented to HWCLI. He is an advocate for immigrant rights, nutrition and “food as medicine,” and improving health access and outcomes for Long Islanders.
As the author of two books— “Undocumented” and “A Boy and a Book,” Fernandez believes literacy is a critical skill for people of all backgrounds.
He studied at Princeton University and Harvard Medical School and has consistently ranked as one of the top heart surgeons in New York State. He is a professor of cardiothoracic surgery for the Northwell-Hofstra School of Medicine, as well as the system director of surgical heart failure for Northwell Health. He currently resides in Huntington with his wife Sandra, his daughter Jasmine and his son Brandon.
