Sandy Recovery
The Long Island Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (LIVOAD) has been convening regularly to collaborate and coordinate superstorm Sandy relief efforts. World Renew Needs Assessments
A team of skilled volunteers from international disaster relief agency World Renew -- also known as the Green Shirts – were on Long Island from April 22 to May 2 to assess the needs of those residents still struggling to recover from superstorm Sandy. The 20-member team was hosted by the Long Island Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster’s Long Term Recovery Group, a coalition of governmental and nonprofit organizations doing disaster relief work.
The data that the Long Term Recovery Group receives from World Renew will help member-agencies better understand the depth of the Sandy-related need that remains on Long Island, quantify the costs of meeting that need, help identify those individuals and families that are most in need of assistance, and connect those Long Islanders with Disaster Case Managers.
